Reciprocal Indemnity Cover with MDU
NZMII are proud to announce our latest partnership with The MDU (Medical Defence Uniion), the UK’s leading medical defence organisation.
The partnership between MDU and NZMII allows for Doctors in Training or Resident Medical Officers (RMOs), to undertake placements in the UK or vice versa in NZ whilst maintaining continuity of cover without any additional premium.
Reciprocal cover will be extended for a period of up to 2 years following which standard premiums will apply.
Eligibility:
MDU membership is available for NZMII members solely working in the UK in an NHS hospital at a level below consultant, where indemnity for clinical negligence claims is provided by a state indemnity scheme (such as CNST).
It is not available if you will also be doing other work where indemnity for clinical negligence claims is not provided, or if you are a consultant.

MDU membership for NZMII members
NZMII membership is available for MDU members coming to NZ to work as an RMO (Resident Medical Officer) employed by a Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora hospital and signed up to the NZMII Group Scheme.
Private work outside of a Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora hospital is not eligible for the NZMII Group Scheme and hence reciprocal indemnity with MDU does not apply.
You will continue to be a member of MDU and membership of NZMII will be provided at no cost to you.
